Five Phases of Friendship

imageIt is my observation that, broadly speaking, each friendship charts the following course:

(1) You meet.

(2) If first impressions fare well, you enter The Honeymoon Phase, where all is well — and largely fake.

(3) Then a conflict arises (the “realness” comes forth; you spend enough time together to get on each others’ nerves).

(4) This conflict then results in either the strengthening or termination of the relationship.

If the process makes it to (5), then the new relationship spills all the joys of friendship, and occasionally the process returns to (3).

And that, my friends, is how a friendship is born [and dies].

I think.
